Practice Makes Perfect: Drop, Cover, and Hold

Oct 16, 2024

On Tuesday, October 17, 2024 you will have the opportunity to practice your “Drop, Cover, and Hold” skills as part of the world’s largest earthquake drill!

At 10:17 AM on October 17th, Shakeout.org invites you to join thousands of other Americans in a nationwide earthquake drill designed to develop your muscle memory so you remember what to do when the ground starts to shake.

Earthquakes DO happen, and it’s likely that if you live in the Pacific Northwest you will experience one or more in your lifetime. Know how to protect yourself!

Drop, Cover, and Hold

Quickly drop to the ground, survey your surroundings and look for something sturdy to duck under. Crawl over to it, and duck under the protective cover (e.g. a table). Hold onto the legs to keep it in place. Your objective is to protect your head and neck, which are most vulnerable to serious injury.

STAY THERE until the shaking stops.

Check out my earlier blog post, https://www.justincaseplans.com/where-will-you-be-when-the-shaking-starts for most specific information.

Attend my next Ready Freddy Prep Party to learn how to put together a personal Flee Bag™ so you will be ready to go in case the quake leaves your home uninhabitable.
